Ajiya stalked down the hallway, skirts of white silk billowing behind her as she went. Her pace was fast, even for herself, and even normally it was often hard to keep up with her. There was a book clutched against her chest, it was leather-bound and none-too-thick. Still, the Iserai held it so close that it seemed as though it might very well have been her diary.
Taking a quick right turn, the woman went down another hallway, eyes straight forward. A few of her sisters passed by and offered the customary warm greeting, complete with smile. Ajiya replied with much the same, only half-hearted and rather distant. Her mind was wandering else where. What she needed at that very moment was to be somewhere where very few, if not no one else was. In fact, she longed for it.
Finally, she reached the door leading to her destination. It was large, made of some sort of dark wood, and ornately carved to suggest what lie behind it. Leafy vines traveled the border of the thing, wrapping about sticks and branches. She had seen it a million times before, but it never seemed to loose it's enchanting beauty. Rather than standing and gawking at it, Ajiya reached out and grasped the handle. Turning it, she pulled the door open and let herself out into the gardens, letting the night's gentle wind take her away.
Stepping out into the cool grass, Ajiya set her book down long enough to remove the slippers from her feet. A warm smile met her lips the moment her feet met the grass. Ajiya had grown up in Asantul where there was no grass to speak of, and the only trees were palms and not really all that pretty. Here, the entire center square was green grass, flowers, and trees. Of course, the flowers were wilting and the the trees losing their leaves thanks to the harvest season. However, the oranges and reds and yellows scattered about the green was beautiful, unlike anything she had seen until her first harvest season within the Inner walls. There was so much beauty in the world that she had never even known before. Still, she could not get over it.
With a soft sigh, Ajiya settled against a tree, letting her eyes close. As far as she knew, she was alone in the gardens. She didn't know it for sure, and if there were someone else there, it wouldn't much matter. Now she could be with her thoughts in peace.
